Improvement of Propeller Blades Used for Handling Liquids Containing Fibrous Solids

Experience has shown that under certain operating conditions propeller pumps entrap long, fibrous solids on the leading edge of the propeller blades. These materials may increase the power drawn by the pump to the extent that, for example, a flood control pumping station may have to be shut down. On an experimental basis parameters have been investigated fostering the entrapment of fibrous solids. A propeller blade design will be presented eliminating entrapment of fibrous solids. The effectiveness of the design has been demonstrated by experiments and field applications.
